Committee

Meetings

The Ministry and Mission Committee normally meets on the 1st Thursday of each month (except January and July) at the Presbyterian Church Offices, 168 Chalmers St, Surry Hills.

Business to be considered by the Committee must be with the Superintendent no later than the Friday before the meeting.

 

Committee members

Jeff Read (Convener) Minister of the Chatswood congregation since 1999.

Matt Oates (Superintendent) Matt has served in the pastoral charges of Mudgee, Greenwich-North Sydney, and Epping before taking up the Superintendent’s role in July, 2018.

John Irvin (Associate Superintendent, Clerk of Assembly, ex officio member) John served in Armidale and Cherrybrook before taking up his current role of Associate Superintendent in 2006.

Darwin Agahari –  Serves as a minister at the Indonesian Church at Kingsgrove.

Sami Gerges –  Formerly a minister with the Merrylands East congregation where he worked primarily with English-speaking young people, Sami is now supporting the Auburn church plant. Sami was appointed to the Committee in 2004.

Tim Macready – An elder of the Cherrybrook congregation, Tim joined the Committee in 2013.

Evelyn Mill – Convener of the PWA Home Mission and Church Extension Committee, Evelyn travels widely across NSW to encourage women in the gospel.

John Rolland – An elder of the Caringbah congregation and a Trustee, John is deeply committed to the goal of church planting in the South Western Growth Centre of Sydney. John joined the Committee in 2004.

Steve Teale – Has been a minister in both Queensland and NSW and is currently the minister of Crossroads Presbyterian Church at Alstonville and Wollongbar.

Russell Vandervelden – Currently the minister of the Maitland congregation, Russell previously served in Coonabarabran and at Ashtonfield. When the Maitland congregations needed revitalisation, Russell was invited to bring the Ashtonfield team to pursue that goal.

Ian Warrell – An elder of the Taree congregation and sometimes an interim lay pastor. Ian was appointed to the Committee in July 2014.

Jonathan Chong – Jono is the ordained home missionary leading the revitalisation efforts at Penshurst. He’s a director with Biblical Counselling Australia and joined the committee in 2020.

Stephanie Wong – Has been involved in church planting alongside her husband Simon, who is currently the minister at Cornerstone Concord. Steph is passionate about mentoring and joined the committee in 2020.

Ethan Zuo – An elder at Captivate Presbyterian Church where is involved with membership ministry. Ethan joined the committee in 2020
